Lake Elsinore Storm Drop Series in High Desert

Published on April 10, 2014 by Tyler Zickel

Storm starting pitcher Zach Eflin was roughed up for eight runs through five innings of work in Wednesday night’s game against the High Desert Mavericks, and the Storm couldn’t find an answer on offense en route to a 10-4 loss.

One night after scoring 10 runs through the first five frames, the Storm found themselves down early after the Mavericks put up two in the first and one in the second.

Facing a 3-0 deficit to start the third, the Storm would answer with a pair of runs thanks to a Stephen Carmon single and Alberth Martinez’s third homerun this season. Martinez has now hit safely in six of seven games this year and leads the team in hits (10) and RBI (14).

With their lead cut to one, the Mavs distanced themselves again in the bottom of the third. Three hits and a sacrifice fly plated three runs to put High Desert up 6-2.

Hunter Renfroe hit his second home run of the season to lead off the fourth, but the Mavs put up a pair in the bottom of the inning and increased their lead to five.

Two more Mavericks runs came across in the seventh to give them a 10-3 lead, and despite the best efforts of the Storm they could only muster a single score in the eighth before running out of outs.

The Storm (3-4) finish their season-opening road trip and will inaugurate the home schedule tomorrow, April 10 against the Lancaster JetHawks (5-2) at The Diamond on Opening Night.

Colin Rea (0-1) will make his second start of the year while Mark Hauschild (1-0) is slated to start for the ‘Hawks. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
